Kevin’s twenty-year career in retail store development has made him a champion of carefully integrated architecture and store decor, creative brand development, inventive conceptual approaches and innovative, sustainable use of materials and implementation of production methods. He has influenced the food retail experience through key projects for Tesco’s Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, Whole Foods Market, The Kroger Co., Wegmans, and many more. These projects have won numerous awards and have been featured in publications such as Design and Display Ideas, VM+SD, Supermarket News, and several international books on retail design.
A sought-after lecturer, Kevin educates from local, regional, and national platforms, and focuses primarily on the impact the built environment has on the environment. He has taught at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and Woodbury University. He has presented at FMI’s Sustainability Summit, and AIA events such as the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 National Conventions; AIA Miami; AIA Charlotte; AIA Alaska; the LA Forum; and MOBIUS LA. He has also presented at ASID events such as the 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 INTERIORS national conventions. Additionally, he has lectured at the 2006 NeoCon West, the 2007 NeoCon Xpress, and the 2007 NeoCon Canada shows.
Through the non-profit organization The Climate Project, Kevin has become a public advocate for sustainable design. He was trained by former VP Al Gore to present the slide show An Inconvenient Truth, the basis of both book and movie of the same title. Kevin has custom-tailored that show with modifications related to interior design, architecture, and construction, their impact on climate change, and current technologies and strategies that can lead to a more stable global climate. In May 2009, The Climate Project publicly adopted Kevin’s modified show as its official Built Environment Module. Click - here - for more information about his speaking experience.
Kevin’s artistic pursuits, comprised of conceptual and experimental work, have been exhibited in individual and group shows including an October 2008 gallery exhibit at The Bartlett School of Architecture in London. His work is in private collections and in the permanent collection of Architecture and Design at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He writes regularly for Contract Magazine, Greenwala, Green & Design, and other print and on-line publications.
